AdBlue is a product composed of a solution of urea and water, reducing the pollutant emissions released from heavy duty and light duty diesel vehicles that have a SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system installed. The use of AdBlueŽ can reduce the harmful nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions that a diesel car releases into the exhaust system during the combustion process by up to 90%.
AdBlueŽ must be used in most heavy diesel vehicles (cars, vans, trucks and buses), purchased after October 2006. In light vehicles AdBlueŽ is only used in vehicles purchased after 2014.
The amount of AdBlueŽ each engine uses depends on various criteria such as driving style, system operating temperature and ambient temperature. On average, each vehicle consumes between 1.5 to 2.5 litres for every 1,000 km. It is important to remember that if the AdBlueŽ tankt is empty, the car's engine will not start.
